For over twenty years I have been thinking about why the health of people with developmental disability is so poor and how this problem can be addressed. I will describe some of the barriers and enablers to high quality healthcare based on my experience as a health care provider, researcher, consumer and parent of four children. An understanding of the context of medical practice will be described and explored to consider ways to empowering people with disabilities, their families and supporters to maximise the quality of the healthcare they receive.

Joining Dr. Lennox will be two family members who will discuss their successes, challenges and strategies in nudging the health care system. There will also be an opportunity for questions and answers.
