Dorothy Griffiths

Dorothy Griffiths is a Professor at Brock University in the Child and Youth Studies Department and the Centre for Applied Disabilities Studies and Co-Director of the International Dual Diagnosis Certificate Programme.

Her work has focused on assisting persons with intellectual disabilities with mental health and behavioural challenges, including those that are involved with the criminal justice system. Dr. Griffiths has written extensively on these topics and has presented widely throughout North America and in Europe. She was cofounder of the 3Rs (Rights, Respect and Responsibility) Programme and co-editor of two books related to the rights of persons with intellectual disability (The Human Rights Agenda and Challenges to the Human Rights of Persons with Intellectual Disability). She recently completed research as Co-Lead Investigator on the Facility Initiatives Study, evaluating the closure of the last three government operated facilities for persons with intellectual disabilities in Ontario.

Dr. Griffiths is the recipient of numerous research, teaching, and service awards including the Order of Canada, the Order of Ontario and the Queen’s Jubilee Medal.
